High school students from area high schools will perform at the 50th annual Youth for Music event on Saturday, Feb. 8.

 

The concert, which is co-sponsored by Cloud County Community College’s Music Department and Tom’s Music House, will be at 6 p.m. at the Brown Grand Theatre, downtown Concordia. The concert is free and open to the public.

 

Students from Hoisington, Logan, Phillipsburg, Pike Valley, Republic County, Rock Hills, Russell, Stockton, Thunder Ridge, Wakefield, Washington County will be participating. Membership in the ensembles is determined by the recommendations of high school teachers.

 

The band conductors will be William Schick, director emeritus of instrumental music at Phillipsburg High School and Renata Knox, adjunct music instructor at Cloud County Community College. Conductors for the choir will be Christopher Langsford, Cloud County music instructor, and Landon Slipke, director of vocal music at Concordia Jr.-Sr. High School.

 

Band students will practice all day on Saturday at the Brown Grand, while the choir participants will rehearse at Cloud County Community College. The public is also invited to attend rehearsals at no charge.
