Degree Options

Hands-On ExperienceAs a student focusing in sports media, you'll have the opportunity to land the story behind the game.

Get the story behind the game: As a student reporter for athletics, you’ll have opportunities to broadcast games, travel with the team, and create audio, video, and print content for our student radio station and our online student newspaper.

An Academic Backbone

Your hands-on experiences will be backed up by solid academics. In addition to electives within our transfer program, our 30-hour technical certificate in Journalism-Mass Communications includes classroom experiences tailored toward Sports Media. And it’s designed so you can dual-enroll ensuring you’ll have more know-how and experience than students who start at a four-year university.

Pro ConnectionsTwo students call a basketball game during a live broadcast on KCVO radio.

We also make sure you work with industry experts. We have industry relationships from Concordia to Manhattan and beyond, and internship opportunities are available. Each year our students head to The K in Kansas City for the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Seminar. Each year our students win awards, and they’ve been known to beat out four-year universities in some categories. We even have Toby Nosker, Director of News and Sports for KNCK on staff to teach you.

Pro Tools

From professional-grade video production to a dedicated Mac computer lab to a fully-functioning radio station, you will work with tools that the professionals use. You’ll be ready to hit the ground running no matter where you go after Cloud.

An Award-Winning Experience

KVCO, the student-run radio station, has won Kansas Association for Broadcaster’s Awards for documentaries, agriculture reports, research, public service announcements, public affairs reports, website layouts, and promotional clips. These students have placed first in these categories, often beating out the four-year university competition.
