Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Federal Regulations require students receiving Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG, Federal Work Study or Federal Direct Loans to be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) towards their degree at the institution they are receiving Aid at.

This progress is measured by three factors:

• GPA - Cumulative/Career Grade Point Average
• CR - Cumulative/Career Completion Rate
• MTF - Maximum Time Frame allowed for completing a certificate or degree

All Financial Aid recipients are reviewed for SAP at the end of each semester and all periods of enrollment are considered when assessing SAP, including prior semesters in which the student did not receive Federal Financial Aid.

Students will be notified by e-mail and by postal mail of Warning and Denial statuses. 

Students placed on Financial Aid Denial are not eligible to receive Federal Financial Aid but have the right to appeal the Denial if they feel that unusual or extenuating circumstances were/are present that warrant an exception to the policy.  If an SAP Appeal is approved, the student will be placed on an Academic Plan to assist in ensuring academic success moving forward.

SAP Appeal forms are available on the Forms and Worksheets webpage and should be submitted with all required documentation to the Financial Aid Office.
