Cloud County Community College is dedicated to delivering education that is responsive to the needs of students. In order to remain responsive, we engage in a systematic, sustained reflection and assessment process that extends to all levels of the institution, both inside and outside the classroom. Assessment helps us identify the cause and effect relationship between the factors that impact student learning and the extent of that learning and directs us toward continuous improvement in service to our students and our communities.

The types of assessments used at Cloud.

Individual Course Outcomes

  • Minimum of four outcomes assessed every semester
  • Department determines outcomes assessed to assure consistency
  • Use Rubrics developed in Canvas with Outcomes

In order for a course to be a “general education course,” it must:

  • Meet all discipline-specific gen. ed. outcomes.
  • Meet at least one interdisciplinary gen. ed. outcome.

Discipline specific General Education Outcomes

  • Involves collection of artifacts via Canvas
  • Uses components of the same “old” system but:
  • Reduces paper use
  • Eliminates snail mail
  • Streamlines the process
  • Strengthens the efficacy of the assessment data
  • Three-year cycle:
  • Planning and Implementation
  • Assessing
  • Reporting and Improving
  • All artifacts submitted in Canvas
  • Representative sample pulled by Coordinator of Assessment and General Education
  • A committee of readers: norming and scoring happen together at a “retreat”

Interdisciplinary Outcomes

  • Departments maintain control of what courses meet which interdisciplinary outcomes.
  • Interdisciplinary outcomes loaded in toCanvas and assessed each semester in the same manner as Course Outcome Assessment.

Interdisciplinary gen. ed. assessment data aggregated at the institution, division, and department.

A schedule of assessments for the next three years can be found here.
