Generic Traditional Option - Pending ACEN Site Approval Geary County

Cloud County Community College offers a traditional two year Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree. This associate degree program prepares students to take the NCLEX-RN exam for state licensure to practice as a registered nurse. Students who complete the ADN curriculum are eligible to apply for licensure. This is an intensive program that combines theory and clinical practice. Students accepted into the program attend classes on campus and participate in clinical during the week. The program is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN).

Admission Requirements

Admission to the School of Nursing is based on entrance exam, academic history, number of prerequisite courses completed, references and satisfactory completion of a Background Check. The School of Nursing Seeks students who exhibit appropriate communication skills, caring attributes, personal integrity, accountability, ethical decision making, and critical thinking skills.

Application Deadline is August 31 of application year for consideration for admission. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that his or her file is complete.

To be considered for admission, students must submit the following:  

  • Submit Online application to Cloud County Community College  
  • Submit application to the Cloud Nursing Program
  • Submit Official transcript of their high school record or GED certificate to the Admission Department
  • Submit Official transcripts for ALL college work completed or currently in progress
  • Submit Professional references
    • A minimum of 3 positive responses received prior to October 1 of application year.
      • If practical nursing graduation is within the last 2 years, a minimum of one reference must be from a full time nursing faculty member.
      • Individuals providing references must be in a position to evaluate the applicant’s performance as a student or employee.
    • Entrance Exam completed per schedule prior to October 1.   

The following criteria are required prior to admission to the program:

  • Graduation from a state-approved high school or the equivalent.
  • Completion of prerequisite coursework before the student begins the nursing program.
  • Students are accepted conditionally pending successful completion of prerequisites.
  • All program prerequisites must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Pass/Fail grades will not be accepted unless it can be confirmed by the registrar that a pass is equivalent to a C or greater. CLEP Credit see policy D6
  • An overall prerequisite cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.00 grade point scale.
  • Must be able to meet Essential Functions.

Entrance Exam

After you have completed the Nursing Program application you will be asked to take the entrance exam.

This is a computerized exam with a paper and pencil component.  A maximum time of 4 hours is allowed to complete the required components.  A practice test is available for purchase by going to https://www.atitesting.com/ati_store/product.aspx?zpid=1481.

Exam cost: $25. Fee will be paid directly to ATI via credit or debit card on the day of the exam.

Anatomy and Physiology

This nationally standardized portion of the Exam is purchased through Assessment Technologies Institute, LLC (ATI).

The proctored assessment consists of 70 items plus 5 pre-test items evaluating 12 topic areas. Score report details performance in all 12 major topic areas, with a minimum of five items per major topic area. A minimum adjusted individual score of 44 is required for admission. This exam may be retaken one time per application year.

Critical Thinking

This short answer essay determines the level of critical thinking while reading components of the exam. No minimum score required for admission.

Math 

Focuses on math skills needed for health care fields, including application of problems involving medical dosages. No minimum score required for admission.

The ATI Anatomy and Physiology exam may be taken TWO (2) times per application year at CCCC.

The Mathematics and Critical Thinking components may be taken ONE (1) time per application year.

Option specific requirements:

Generic Traditional ADN 

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – current certification
    • Waiver may be granted for active healthcare experience in another specialty.
  • Prerequisite courses with grade C or better – Must be completed prior to August 1 of admission year.
    • Anatomy and Physiology – minimum 5 credit hours
    • Human Growth and Development – 3 credit hours
    • Intermediate Algebra or higher – 3 credit hours
    • General Psychology – 3 credit hours
  • Courses taken multiple times to get the minimum “C” grade may jeopardize admission.

Additional Enrollment Requirements

  • The applicant must possess physical and emotional health sufficient to meet the demands of a health care professional. A physical examination and health history is required to be submitted prior to fall semester. All immunizations and TB screening must be current.
  • Accepted students shall provide evidence of current CPR certification at the Healthcare Provider level through the American Heart Association prior to start of program, and must be kept current through the end of the program.
  • Admission to the program is contingent upon a satisfactory background check which is completed with application. Criminal conviction may jeopardize the ability to continue in the program and/or to obtain licensure.
  • Readmission to the program at any time besides at the start of the program must be within 12 months of withdrawal. Students being readmitted will need a plan of success before readmission. See readmission procedure.
  • Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Cloud County Community College is based on points. See the Applicant Ranking for more information.
  • Students with English as a second language are required to take the TOEFL exam, to validate proficiency of the English Language.
    • If the student applicant has successfully completed CM 101 English Composition I a TOEFL score is not required.

Satisfactory completion of a Background check is required. Background checks will be submitted online through Castle Branch.

References

  1. Please provide a minimum of three professional references. References must be nursing instructors, supervisors, or employers who are in a position to evaluate you as a CNA and student. Do not use relatives, friends, or peers.
  2. Print one form for each reference and fill in the appropriate areas. Then give it to a current/former employer or individual familiar with your academic abilities to complete the remainder of the form. Forms are located in the application packet.

Disclosure:

Laws governing nursing, state that an individual may be denied licensure if that person has had certain criminal convictions: Licensure may also be denied because of past disciplinary action on a license.

Felony Crimes Against Persons are an automatic bar to Kansas nursing licensure as set by the Kansas legislature. Those actions are “as specified in article 34 of chapter 21 of the Kansas Statutes Annotated, prior to their repeal, or article 54 of chapter 21 of the Kansas Statutes annotated, or K.S.A. 2015 Supp. 21-6104, 21-6325, 21-6326 or 21-6418, and amendments thereto;” --- Kansas Nurse Practice Act

A list referred to as "Total Bars" indicates crimes for which the conviction of would eliminate the potential for licensure. See Felony Crimes Against Persons, Chapter 21, Article 34 in Kansas Statutes Annotated.

Obtaining the Associate Degree in Nursing from Cloud County Community College does not guarantee licensure in any state, including Kansas. Information regarding grounds for disciplinary action pertaining to a Kansas license is addressed in regulation KSA 65-1120.
