The Cloud County Community College Children's Center began in the fall of 1986.

The purpose of the Center is two fold:

  1. to provide an on-campus training site for students in the child care and guidance programs; and
  2. to provide high-quality care for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years.

Admission Criteria

Admission criteria has been established in conjunction with the Mission Statement of the Center, which strives to service children of CCCC Student's primarily, with the other slots being filled first by CCCC Employees and then community members.

Philosophy

The CCCC Children's Center and Early Childhood Education Department believe and support the Developmentally Appropriate Practice of Quality Early Childhood Education. This involves providing and implementing an individualized learning environment for each child within the group setting. We further believe that the role of the family must be enhanced and never compromised. Siblings will be able to interact with one another at various times during the day. Parents are communicated with daily, and involved in their child's care and learning opportunities. Parents are also encouraged to visit the center and eat lunch with their child or children. The Center is only an extension of the children's family unit not in competition with the family, or replacing the family in any way.

The Center is divided into 3 classrooms, in accordance with Kansas Department of Health and Environment Child Care Licensing Standards. Each classroom teacher is trained and educated in the Early Childhood Education Field with either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor's Degree. The Center is also fortunate to have Early Childhood Education students who are supervised by the classroom teacher and College Instructor completing practicum's at the Center. These students are identified with their name badge. In addition, there are also Work Study Students who assist us in providing quality program. Everyone who is involved with the children's center is providing a very important piece of the Quality Child Care Experience.
