Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) is the evaluation and assessment of an individual's learning obtained outside a formal academic setting. Cloud County Community College maintains established procedures for the awarding of credit for prior learning as outlined in Institutional Policy D6: Clock and Credit Hour Definition & Alternative Credit Equivalencies.

Types of Credit for Prior Learning: "Prior Learning" includes the postsecondary-level knowledge and skills gained through work and life experiences, such as, but not limited to: employer and military training programs, industry certifications, non-credit postsecondary-level military training programs, industry certifications, non-credit postsecondary-level courses, and civic or volunteer experiences.

Credit limits for Credit for Prior Learning: CPL credit alone does not fulfill all degree requirements; students must complete 15 credit hours at the 100-level or above as a Cloud County Community College student. A maximum of 18 CPL credits may be applied toward a student's program of study and graduation requirements.

Fees: No additional fees are accessed to record Credit for Prior Learning

How Credit for Prior Learning Appears on the Transcript: Credits for CPL will be entered on a Cloud County Community College transcript upon the successful completion of 12 semester hours of work from Cloud County Community College.
Credit for Prior Learning will appear as one of these headings on the transcript:
1. CPL CLEP
2. CPL Advanced Placement
3. CPL Military Training
The Cloud County Community College course number, course title, number of credits, and grade is listed under each heading.

Acceptance of Transfer Credit for Prior Learning Credits: Credit for Prior Learning is awarded only for degree-seeking students and must be applicable to the student's program of study in order to be accepted. CPL is awarded on a course-by-course basis when the prior learning is equivalent to the learning outcomes in the postsecondary course. Cloud County Community College cannot guarantee how CPL credit will transfer to other colleges and universities.
