Thunderbirds Break Broncbusters 61-50

(Concordia, KS) - The Cloud County Thunderbirds exacted a little revenge on the Garden City Broncbusters, defeating them 61-50 in Jayhawk West action Wednesday night.  Garden defeated Cloud back on January 12th 89-76 in a tight ball game.  In what started out to be a heavy wait brawl, Cloud County took Garden’s best shots, literally, and raced out to a narrow 5 point advantage at the break, 24-19.  It was all Cloud County in the second half as the referees tightened down on the physical play and Cloud County’s lead swelled to 21 points, 51-30.  The T-Birds knocked down 19 of 25 second half free throws to ice the Jayhawk West win.  The Chicago-tandem of Jemal Farmer and Rudy Meo combined for 30 points (15 each) to lead the way for Cloud County.  Farmer was also selected as one of the Jayhawk West “Players of the Week” for his 32 point performance at Barton County last Saturday.  The rest of the scoring looked like this:  Kovalov – 8; Russell – 6; Tate – 2; Adams – 3; Antenen – 2; Blocker – 6; White-Ready – 4.

The men improve to 16-9 and 8-3 in conference play.   The T-Birds will be in action this weekend as they play host to the Trojans of Colby Community College on Saturday, the 16th at 8 p.m.  Saturday also marks Cloud County’s Winter Homecoming celebration and Sunday will be the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction ceremony at 1 p.m. in Arley Bryant Gymnasium.
