Softball Splits with Bethany in Season Home Opener

(Concordia, KS) -- The Lady Thunderbird Softball team got their season underway Saturday as they hosted the Bethany College Lady Swedes in a double header.  In game #1, Bethany put 2 on the board in the top of the 3rd inning, but Cloud marched back putting 2 of their own on the board tying the game.  In the top of the 7th Bethany scored on a passed ball giving them a 3-2 advantage.  Cloud stranded 2 runners in the bottom of the 7th and dropped game 1, 3-2.

In the night cap, Cloud once again fell down 2-0 in the opening inning but put 5 unanswered runs on the board led by a 2 run dinger by freshman Ja’ Nelle Burton and a 3 for 3 performance at the plate by freshman Sarah Llamas.  Cloud added an insurance run in the 3rd inning and hung on for their first win of the 2008 season 6-4.  Jen Vacha got the win for Cloud.

The Lady T-Birds will be back in action as they travel to Butler County on Friday to take on the Lady Grizzlies in a conference double header beginning at 3 p.m.  On Saturday Cloud will host Jayhawk East-foe, Highland Community College with game one of two starting at 1 p.m.  This game was scheduled to be in Highland, but due to snow on their field, they will travel to Concordia for the games.
