Public forum to explore options to ease

anticipated local housing shortage

(CONCORDIA, KS) --  A public forum to explore options to ease an anticipated local housing shortage is scheduled Jan. 10 at the Brown Grand Theatre, Downtown Concordia.

Projected demands for local rental units due to upcoming major construction projects have prompted local officials and CloudCorp to schedule the 7 p.m. forum.  Construction of an ethanol plant and large wind farm in the Cloud County area are expected to contribute to a demand for temporary rental properties across the county and region.

An estimated 450 construction workers will be working in Cloud County in 2008 from April through December.

The forum will allow the public to weigh in on concerns from local elected officials along with Cloud County Community College housing officials who anticipate a strong need for rental units for incoming students, a situation that may compete with construction workers needing temporary housing in Concordia and the surrounding communities.

Elected officials, realtors, and landlords are invited.

“We encourage everyone who has an interest or stake in this situation to attend the forum,” said Cloud County Commissioner Johnita Crawford.  “With plenty of public input, we can come up with solutions, deal with the situation proactively and make this a win-win situation for everyone.”

The forum is sponsored by Cloud County, City of Concordia, CloudCorp and Cloud County Community College.
