Rotary Student of the Month

 

(CONCORDIA, KS)-- Darcie Schmitz of Axtell, Kansas was chosen as Cloud’s Rotary College Student of the Month for March.  Comments offered on her nomination forms included, “Darcie is a dedicated student and track athlete.  She blends her academic and athletic schedules very well and still has time to help with youth track and field programs in the community.  She has helped with volleyball camps the past 2 years.  Darcie leads by example in her work ethic which shows her ability to focus on a goal, whether it be in the classroom or on the track.  Darcie is not only an outstanding student but a great role model as well.”

 

Darcie is a member of Cloud’s track and volleyball teams.  She is a captain of the track team and as a freshman, qualified for the national indoor and outdoor meets.  She placed 3rd in the long jump and 5th in the triple jump at the indoor nationals and placed 5th in the triple jump at the outdoor nationals.  She also qualified for outdoor nationals in the triple jump and was a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay team.  Darcie qualified this year for the national indoor meet and placed 5th in the long jump and 7th in the triple jump.  Darcie was named as a freshman to the “Coaches Association Track and Field All-American Team” for academic excellence.  She is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa scholastic honor society.

 

Darcie plans to finish her Associate Degree in Graphic Design before transferring to Fort Hays State University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree and compete on FHSU’s track team.  Darcie graduated from B & B High School.  Her parents are Giles and Roxie Schmitz.
