Les Hemphill, Director of Advisement and Counseling Services at Cloud County Community College’s Concordia campus, was selected as the recipient of the 2007 Service to Commission Award awarded by the NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) Advising Students with Disabilities Commission.
This award was established to recognize individuals who have provided outstanding service, leadership, and commitment to a particular Commission within the Association in support of its efforts to enhance the development of students. NACADA Commissions provide members an opportunity to join others with similar academic or specific student population interests in advising. Commissions advise the NACADA Board of Directors about their concerns and issues, and represent their specific areas to the annual and regional conference planning committees.
Each year since 1983, NACADA has honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising. The goal of NACADA is to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students.
The over 9,200 NACADA members consist of faculty, professional advisors, administrators, counselors, and others in academic and student affairs concerned with the intellectual, personal, and vocational needs of students. In addition, NACADA is the representative and advocate of academic advising and those providing that service to higher education.
Hemphill was formally honored and presented with this award in Baltimore, Maryland, at the commission’s annual meeting held during the NACADA Annual Conference on October 20.
