MATC credit loss affects Spring enrollment
(CONCORDIA, KS) – Cloud County Community College President Dr. Richard Underbakke has announced official Spring enrollment at the college is down 296 credit hours due to a discontinued partnership with Manhattan Area Technical College.
The college, with campuses in Concordia, Geary County and Dickinson County, has 2,438 full and part-time students enrolled in 18,039 credit hours compared to 2,611 students and 18,335 credit hours at the same time last year.
Dr. Underbakke said the college lost 827 credit hours due to a Kansas Board of Regents’ funding formula change that prompted MATC to start providing its own general education courses formerly offered by Cloud at the Manhattan campus.
“Our credit hour numbers would have been stronger had it not been for the MATC decision to offer its own general education courses,” the president said.
“Aggressive recruitment efforts by our staff allowed us to make up 64 percent of the lost MATC credits.”
Dr. Underbakke said the Spring enrollment count will be the last cycle affected by the MATC change.
“Enrollment projections for next Fall look positive,” the president added.
CCCC also offers online classes and outreach courses in 35 communities in 12 counties.
