Cloud County Community College launches 2008 Telefund
(CONCORDIA, KS) – Students at Cloud County Community College are participating in the 2008 Alltel Alumni Telefund, a phone campaign that encourages alumni and friends to make financial pledges to support the College Foundation’s general scholarship fund.
“Scholarship recipients are the direct beneficiaries of our Telefund efforts,” Budreau said. “The college appreciates the generous support of those who donate when they receive these phone calls.”
The Telefund began Jan. 22 and continues through Feb. 7.
More than 330 student callers from campus organizations at the Concordia and Geary County campuses are expected to participate. New this year is one night of calling from the Geary County campus.
This year’s theme is “Are You Smarter than a Fourth Grader?”, a spinoff of the “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?” television reality show.
Alltel, the event’s largest sponsor, donated cell phones and long distance service for the Telefund. The telecommunications company has underwritten this portion of the Telefund for the past five years.
“We are fortunate to have Alltel as our partner,” Budreau said. “Realizing the importance of this event, the Alltel Corporation is willing to help make it happen.”
Students callers are eligible to win a full slate of prizes donated by Concordia businesses. The top prizes are a 15-inch flat screen television with built-in DVD player and an I-Pod. A Guitar Hero III was donated by Wal-Mart. Other prizes include CCCC athletic bags, $25 gift certificate from Coppoc’s Sports and Awards, movie passes from Majestic Theatre, Concordia Chamber Bucks, Alltel products and spring semester scholarships from the foundation.
Local restaurants donating food for the callers include El Puerto, Dairy Queen, Sonic, Subway, Taco John’s and Pizza Hut. Bottled water and snacks for the “Five Star Rolling See-food Buffet” are being provided by Snack Express and Coca-Cola is providing soft drinks.
Participating campus organizations include Student Senate, Student Ambassadors, Resident Assistants, Rolling Thunder Pep Band, Great Society Singers, Thunderbolt Dance Team, Cheerleaders, FCA, Phi Theta Kappa, KVCO Radio, publications classes and student athletes.
The Telefund concludes with a complimentary dinner for participants and their sponsors.
