Baseball Drops Four Close Games Over Weekend.

(Enid, OK) – With only one outdoor practice under their belt, the Cloud County baseball team hit the road leading south to take on the Northern Oklahoma Mavericks over the weekend in a four game series.  At a clear disadvantage to their opponents, whom have seen numerous days in the sun prior to their meeting, the Thunderbirds managed to be in each and every game only to lose in the final inning twice and by no more than 2 runs in any other game.  Saturday’s losses were 4-2 and 5-4 nail bighters.  The game-time temperature was 64 degrees on Saturday while the game-time temperature was 31 on Sunday.  In game one on Sunday, Cloud fell behind 6-1 but battled back to a tie, only to fall 7-6.  The T-Birds created 4 errors in the loss which certainly didn’t help their come-back effort.  In the Sunday nightcap, the T-Birds were knocked off 2-1 with the Mavericks getting a game winning base hit in the bottom of the 7th.  Despite the four losses, head coach Greg Brummett was optimistic about his teams performance, particularly on the mound and defensively.  Despite the four errors in game 3, the T-Birds had only 6 errors on the weekend.  Hitting will improve dramatically as the team gets outside more consistently and faces live pitching on a regular basis.

The T-Birds will make it another weekend as they will return south to take on Conner State CC (OK) in a double header on the 16th and over to Fort Smith CC (AR) on Sunday the 17th
