Topeka student among players in Carol Burnett sketches

(CONCORDIA, KS) – CCCC Student Matt Rodriguez, Topeka, is among actors in the April 10 through 12 production of “An Evening with Carol” at the Brown Grand Theatre, downtown Concordia.

Directors of the Brown Grand Players’ production are CCCC Humanities Division Dean Sue Sutton, Susan Cantine Maxson and Sherrie Radcliffe.

Last Spring’s Brown Grand Players’ production, “An Evening with Carol” proved to be so popular with the actors, audience, and directors that a slate of brand new sketches was developed.

The Carol Burnett Show was the most watched television variety show of its time.

“An Evening with Carol II,” features Gayle Martin, Jana Carlson, Mikki Nelson, and Connie Walenta in two sketches about a devious Fireside Girl; Joan Underbakke, Patrick Sieben, and Matt Rodriguez, in two “Old Folks at Home” skits; Jade Chaput and Holly Andrews as a couple of frustrated wallflowers sidelined at a dance;  Gary Dvorak, Connie Walenta, and Rick Radcliffe in a skit about a felon who is happy behind bars -- especially when his complaining wife shows up for a prison visit; Wonda Phillips and Luann Miller as two classmates who meet years later and remember how they despised one another; Jade Chaput, Jackie Wheeler, Matt Rodriguez, and Gary Dvorak in “The Howl and the Pussycat,” one of many of the Carol Burnett Show’s many movie parodies, and Holly Andrews and Matt Rodriguez in a sketch about an exterminator who loses his nerve.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children.  Curtain is 7 p.m. each evening.  For more information, call the theatre, (785) 243-2553.
