(CONCORDIA, KS) – A ground breaking ceremony will be held Tuesday, December 1 at 9 a.m. on the Concordia campus of Cloud County Community College. The ground breaking will commence the installation of two Northwind 100KW wind turbines and the creation of a three turbine wind farm on the college’s campus.
“I am pleased that this project is coming to fruition,” said CCCC President Dr. Richard Underbakke. “I believe our project will become a model for colleges and other public institutions to follow as renewable energy is further developed.”
Members of the public are encouraged to attend this special event. The college will provide a bus ride from College Drive to the CCCC hilltop starting at 8:30 a.m. The bus will leave from Parking Lot #4 near the Welcome Center of the college.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Special invited guests include United States Senator Sam Brownback, United States Senator Pat Roberts, Congressman Jerry Moran, Governor of the State of Kansas Mark Parkinson and local State Representative Elaine Bowers. Representatives from other local and state organizations that have been a part of this project will also be in attendance.
“We have had substantial state and federal support for the development of this community based wind farm being installed to power a public building,” Underbakke said. “We can never recognize all of those entities enough for their support.”
The name for the college wind farm, selected by college faculty and staff, will be revealed during the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, all guests are invited to the college’s Welcome Center for refreshments.
