(COFFEYVILLE, KS) -- The Cloud County men and women traded wins with the Coffeyville Ravens, on Saturday. The men won 2-1, while the women lost 1-2.
The men's game started out slow. The first goal was delivered by Cloud County in the 38th minute, by Craig Rogers, off a loose ball inside the 18 yard box.
Coffeyville then evened the score with a goal during the 53rd minute, from inside the box.
Less than three minutes later, the T-birds scored again, on a through ball from Gustavo Cunha to Gary Hynes.
"After our second goal, we basically took possession of the ball and controlled the rest of the game," Assistant Coach Tyler Gundersen described. "I'd say we had the ball more than 70% of the time."
Both Cloud County Goal Keepers had playing time. Freshman Andrew Millington tallied one save but left the game at 22 minutes, after receiving a yellow card for a hand ball. Sophomore Julio Tovalin also recorded a save.
The Cloud County men are now 5-3-2 overall, with a 3-2 Jayhawk Conference record.
All the action in the women's game was in the second half.
Coffeyville scored the first goal, four minutes into the second half, but Cloud came back and tied it up. Whitney Beckstead scored with a header in the 61st minute, off a cross with Pam Jueneman.
The Ravens scored again, in the 78th minute, and unfortunately, the Lady T-birds couldn't manage another goal in the remaining minutes.
The Cloud County women hold a 4-7-1 overall record, and are 3-3 in conference play.
The Thunderbirds face Barton County for their next matchup, which will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Concordia.
