Full-time student status is 12 hours. (Note: students wishing to graduate in 2 years usually complete 15-16 credit hours per semester. Students taking 12 hours per semester can graduate in 2 years only if they take summer courses each year.) Most full-time students work a maximum of 20 hours per week.

Part-time student status: Students receiving financial aid who are enrolled in fewer than 12 credit hours receive financial aid on a pro-rated basis. Students registered in 9 creditsare considered 3/4 time students and receive 3/4 of their awarded financial aid for the semester. 3/4 time students usually work a maximum of 30 hours per week. Students registered in 6 credit hours are considered 1/2 time students and receive 1/2 of the financial aid award.

COMPASS Entrance Screening

First-time college students complete COMPASS screening in reading, writing and mathematics before enrolling. COMPASS is an untimed computer assessment that matches students basic skills to college courses. This process increases the probability of a successful college experience for every Cloud student. Students who COMPASS have a $10 COMPASS fee added to their first semester's fees.

Students who have completed the ACT test within the last year with at least a 21 may use ACT scores in lieu of COMPASS for no additional fee. Transfer students who have not completed English Composition I and/or College Algebra complete the appropriate section(s) of COMPASS or provide ACT scores before enrolling in either course.

COMPASS screening usually takes 2-3 hours to complete. A COMPASS preparation guide, "What is COMPASS?" with sample COMPASS questions is included in the new student information packet. Students should take the COMPASS prior to enrolling. Call (785) 238-8010 for COMPASS test dates and times.

Course Enrollment:

Although it is possible to enroll at registration, most students choose to pre-enroll for courses. Pre-enrolled students save time and hassle at registration. Admitted students pre-enroll by appointment with an academic advisor who interprets COMPASS/ACT scores and helps students choose courses that are appropriate for their academic goals, and meet financial aid and veteran's benefit guidelines. Advisors can help students determine which program of study best meets their goals, as well as answer many questions. It is helpful if students have taken time to look at the college catalog and course schedule before meeting with an advisor.

Transferring students who do not have previous transcripts may enroll using grade cards from the prior college(s). Official transcripts are required to be on file by the tenth class day.

Summer and fall semester pre-enrollment is done by appointment only. Schedule your pre-enrollment appointment by calling 238-8010. Students new to Cloud should complete the admissions process, COMPASS screening and financial aid forms prior to enrollment. Students who do not pre-enroll should expect significant delays at registration and with financial aid disbursement.

Registration

Registration is the final step in the enrollment process. Students pick up schedules, pay tuition and buy books on the registration day that precedes each semester.
