Veteran's Benefits

Veteran's Benefits may be used to pay tuition, fees and books. However, veteran's should note that Veteran's Benefit plans differ in payment options. Veterans must contact the Veteran's Coordinator at 1-800-729-5101 Ext. 207 to determine if their plan requires payment at registration or if it directly pays the college.

Financial Aid

Students seeking federal financial aid should complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Cloud’s federal school code is 00190. FAFSA on the Web worksheets are available on the Geary County Campus. Students can receive assistance in filling out the FAFSA by making an appointment in Student Services at GCC or calling Cloud's main campus financial aid office at 1-800-729-5101 ext. 280, 283, or 284.

Federal Financial Aid is awarded for each academic year beginning with the fall semester and ending with summer school. Students applying for financial aid for the current academic year should complete the FAFSA using their previous year's tax return.

From previous colleges: Students must provide unofficial transcripts or grade cards of all previous college work prior to enrollment. Degree seeking students and students using financial aid must have official transcripts on file.

From high school: Cloud also requires high school transcripts or GED scores on all students. These may be mailed to the address below or faxed to Student Services on the Geary County Campus at 785-238-2898.

COMPASS Entrance Screening

First-time college students complete COMPASS screening in reading, writing and mathematics before enrolling. COMPASS is an untimed computer assessment that matches students basic skills to college courses. This process increases the probability of a successful college experience for every Cloud student. Students who COMPASS have a $10 COMPASS fee added to their first semester's fees.

Students who have completed the ACT test within the last three with at least a 21 may use ACT scores in lieu of COMPASS for no additional fee. Transfer students who have not completed English Composition I and/or College Algebra complete the appropriate section(s) of COMPASS or provide ACT scores before enrolling in general education courses.

COMPASS screening usually takes 2-3 hours to complete. Sample questions are available online at www.act.org/compass/. Students should take the COMPASS prior to enrolling. See www.cloud.edu/geary/ or call (785) 238-8010 for COMPASS test dates and times.

Course Enrollment:

Admitted students enroll by appointment with an academic advisor who interprets COMPASS/ACT scores and helps students choose courses that are appropriate for their academic goals, and meet financial aid and veteran's benefit guidelines. Advisors can help students determine which program of study best meets their goals, as well as answer many questions. It is helpful if students have taken time to look at the college catalog and course schedule online before meeting with an advisor.

Schedule your enrollment appointment by calling 238-8010. Students new to Cloud should complete the admissions process, COMPASS screening and financial aid forms prior to enrollment.

Registration

Registration is the final step in the enrollment process, during which students confirm their class schedule and make payment arrangements. Pre-enrolled students receive registration packets in the mail 3-4 weeks before the first day of classes. Special Bookstore hours are available for these students who pre-enroll and complete mail-in registration.
