Early Childhood Education
Welcome to the ECE Program!
The Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE) has enjoyed a long history at Cloud County Community College.
- We house the Children's Center, which cares for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. Mrs. Charbonneau has been with the
Children's Center since it opened in 1987 and serves as the Director of the Center.
-
The Early Childhood Resource and Referral Agency is the "go to" place for the 139 providers in our seven county service area,
as well as, for parents and the educational component for the Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Misty Elder operates the Early
Childhood Resource and Referral Agency and has been with the Department since the beginning of the Agency in 1997.
-
The ECE department is administered by Mrs. Joan Robison, who has been with the program since 1983.
-
We have added more ECE courses on-campus, off-campus and on-line. The on-campus program remains fairly constant with more
students who are pursuing other degrees, taking individual courses in the program, and participating with the ECE Club and
other activities throughout the year.
We try to offer ECE students many opportunities to grow inside the classroom and in the lab environment, as well as, at
professional conferences. Traditionally, we participate in the KAEYC Conference each
fall at locations throughout Kansas, the North Central Providers Group which hosts a Fall Conference in Beloit, and the
Midwest AEYC conference at different locations in the Midwest.
We believe that it is most important to prepare the student not only for life in the classroom, but also for the professional
development that must occur.
The well balanced program includes courses dealing with all aspects of caring for children.
Course topics include:
development of infants, toddlers and preschool age children;
program planning for infants, toddlers and preschool age children;
techniques of parent involvement;
health, safety and nutritional needs of children;
business courses on personnel and financial management of a center.
You will be prepared to:
work directly with children and their parents in a child care, nursery or, preschool setting;
work directly with infants and toddlers and their parents in a child care setting;
develop curriculum for child care centers, preschoolers, or nursery schools;
administer programs for children and their parents in child care centers, preshool, or nursery
schools.

We hope that you will get to know each of us, and look forward to having you in our Department for the next few years.
