TR101 INTRODUCTION TO TOURISM - 3 credit hours
Is designed as an introduction to the travel and tourism industry. Each major component of the travel business will be examined in detail, so as to provide the student with a useful overview of both the scope of the industry and its many career opportunities.
TR102 TRAVEL/TOURISM II - 3 credit hours
Is based upon the Travel Career Development program designed by the Institute of Certified Travel Agents. The following topics will be examined: The Travel Product, Selling Travel, Office Policies and Procedures and How Travel Agencies Function. The student will be required to complete the ICTA Proficiency Exam, given at the end of the semester.
TR105 KANSAS HISTORY AND TOURISM - 2 credit hours
This course is designed to familiarize Travel/Tourism students with the rich history of Kansas--both natural and man-made--and with the roles played by local geology, paleontology, archaeology, and history in telling the Kansas story. A second purpose of the course is to examine the "tourist landscape" of historic Kansas today, both in terms of the effective interpretation of historic sites and the successful marketing of local history as a significant travel product throughout the state.
TR110 AUTOMATION TRAINING: VIASINC - 3 credit hours
Is founded upon computer software specifically designed to help agency/airline students teach themselves to use the major airline reservation systems. Working on a business computer, students progress through course materials that provide comprehensive instruction in the operation of System One/Amadeus computer language.
TR111 AGENCY OPERATIONS - 3 credit hours
Is designed to provide the student with other aspects of the travel industry. The course will focus on two fields of study: corporate and leisure travel and cruises.
TR112 PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE - 3 credit hours
Is designed to prepare the travel tourism student for career positions within the travel industry. A thorough knowledge of ticketing is one of many important requirements needed to work for travel agencies and airlines today. The travel sales agent needs to be familiar with ticketing methods--manual and automated.
TR115 TRAVEL GEOGRAPHY - 3 credit hours
Is targeted to those who sell, or who plan to sell "places." Fewer subjects are as colorful, fascinating, and diverse as travel geography. The course is an educational journey across the country and around the world.
TR116 DIMENSIONS IN TOUR PLANNING AND ESCORTING - 3 credit hours
Is designed to familiarize the tourism student with the basic knowledge of planning, researching, organizing, pricing, and escorting all types of tours. The class will take a minimum of one trip during the semester. The additional cost will be assumed by each class member.
TR124 HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY TRAINING - 3 credit hours
This course covers every fact of training personnel in new or established hospitality operations.  From interviewing skills to creating performance reviews, students will learn effective training tactics.
 
TR125A HOSPITALITY AND TRAVEL MARKETING - 3 credit hours
This course is designed to provide students basic knowledge and practical experience which will enable them to develop strategic marketing plans for hotel/motel properties.
TR126 CONVENTION MANAGEMENT AND SERVICES - 3 credit hours
This AH & MA course is designed to introduce future meeting planners, travel agents, and hotel personnel to the basic elements of successful conferences and meetings. Included are all phases of planning, managing, and servicing meetings and conventions.
TR127 HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - 3 credit hours
The student is provided a comprehensive introduction to the area of business known as human resource management or personnel administration. The primary focus is upon small to medium size organizations. Students are introduced to the topics of job descriptions, the hiring process, legal issues , compensation, evaluation, the development of personnel, and the administrative issues related to the management of human resources. (Dual listed with Business.)
TR128 HOSPITALITY SALES - 3 credit hours
To provide an overview of hospitality sales and advertising so the student develops a working knowledge in these areas.
TR129 GUEST SERVICES - 3 credit hours
To expose students to the needs and expectations of guests.  We will discuss: assertive training; the spirit of hospitality; the art of fine dining; dressing for success; telephone training; ethics; napkin art; sexual harassment; time management; and workplace ethics.
TR150 INTRODUCTION TO HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT - 3 credit hours
Provides a basic understanding of the lodging and food service industry by tracing the industry's growth and development, reviewing the organization of hotel and food and beverage operations, and by focusing on industry opportunity and future trends.
TR151 FRONT DESK AUTOMATION - 3 credit hours
Presents a systematic approach to front office procedures by detailing the flow of business through a hotel beginning with the reservation process and ending with billing and collection procedures. The course also places front office procedures within the context of the overall operation of a hotel and examines front office management, the process of handling complaints and concerns regarding hotel safety and security.
TR152 FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGEMENT - 3 credit hours
Provides a basic understanding of the principles of food production and service management for any size operation. Sanitation, menu planning, purchasing, storage and food and beverage management will be covered.
TR153 OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT - 3 credit hours
This Operations Management course presents a systematic approach to managing housekeeping operations in the hospitality industry. It will also provide hospitality managers and student with information they will need to know to manage the physical plant of a hotel or restaurant and work effectively with the engineering and maintenance department.
 
TR155 SWIMMING POOL AND SPA MANAGEMENT - 2 credit hours
Designed for recreational management students and others desiring a background in the management of public and private swimming pools and hot tubs (spas). The course will stress such areas as pool and spa design; water quality; water chemistry, testing, and balancing ; filtration systems; efficient energy management; water safety; risk management, legal ramifications of pool and spa management, and proper record keeping; and management of personnel. The course will be taught by lecture, class discussion, demonstration, and field trips to area pool and spa facilities.
TR160 HOSPITALITY LAW- 3 credit hours
This course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of international hotel management.  This course also discusses the major laws that impact the hotel's general operations and relations with it s employees.
 
TR164 RESORT MANAGEMENT - 3 credit hours
Offers a complete approach to the operation of resort properties. Beginning with historical development, details are presented in planning, development, financial investment management and marketing that deal with the unique nature of resort business. The course also examines the future and the impact of the condominium concept, time sharing, technological change and the increased cost of energy and transportation.
TR166 INTRODUCTION TO RECREATION - 3 credit hours
This course is designed to provide a full overview of all aspects of leisure including basic concepts, definitions, fundamentals and terms; the organization and delivery of leisure services; and critical professional trends, issues and future perspectives. The purpose of the course is to assist in the preparation of individuals seeking professional careers in the leisure service field. Contemporary and up-to-date facts, statistics and supporting documentation concerning leisure in the United States & Canada will be presented.
TR170 SERVICE QUALITY MANAGEMENT
An integrative course intended to draw together the several disciplines on which hospitality administration is based. Examines the relationship between service quality management and financial performance; evaluation issues; and operational reality through field observation with the aim of decreasing guest defection, increasing market share, improving operational decisions, and strategic thinking.
 
TR205 HOTEL/MOTEL RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT
This course is designed as an introduction into the field of hotel/motel restaurant management. Each major area of the hotel/motel restaurant industry will be examined and studied. the front office management area will be studied in great detail. Reservation systems will be explored. The accounting system used to handle credit cards will be examined and students will work with that aspect.
TR209 RESERVATIONS AUTOMATION - 2 credit hours
Viasinc's training program is founded upon computer software specifically designed to help tourism and hospitality students teach themselves to use the major reservation systems. Working on a business computer, students progress through course materials that provide comprehensive instruction in the operation of the Marriott Automated Reservation System for Hotel accommodations, or MARSHA. MARSHA has been chosen because Marriott is an industry leader, with hundreds of installations worldwide.
TR220 COOPERATIVE EDUCATION INTERNSHIP - 1-6 credit hours
Enhances the academic background of the student with a curriculum related on-the-job work experience. These internships may be completed by working while attending school, by working off campus for a semester (alternate coop), or by working during the summer. College personnel will assist in matching employers and students in this program which is committed to the growth of the student. Cooperative Education is a valued partnership between employers, students, and educators.
