Nurse Aide

Certified Nurse Aides are in demand. Become a part of the challenging world of health care. Prepare yourself to care for the ill, disabled, or elderly person in the nursing home or hospital setting.

Performance Requirements
Students must be able to demonstrate the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Students must be able to communicate / consult with patients in order to understand the patient's needs.

Academic
If academic adjustment is needed for any type of disability, students should contact the Director of Counseling and Advising Services, located in Student Services. Students requiring auxiliary aids and services need to request accommodation in advance of the start of class.

Other than Academic
If special arrangements are needed for accessibility, contact the Vice-President for Administrative Services at least 72 hours in advance.

Students are expected to pay tuition and textbook fees at the first class session. No one will be allowed to attend sessions without payment being made by either self or a place of employment.  Students must provide documentation if an employer or SRS is to be billed.

Paid Nutrition Assistant

A paid nutrition assistant, as defined by K.S.A. 39-923, is "an individual who is paid to feed residents of an adult care home, or who is used under an arrangement with another agency or organization, who is trained by a person meeting nurse aide instructor qualifications...and who provides such assistance under the supervision of a registered professional or licensed practical nurse."

Performance Requirements
Students must be able to communicate / consult with the residents in order to understand the resident's needs and pass a competency test.

Medication Aid

This course is available for Certified Nurse Aides, and prepares the aide to pass medications in Kansas nursing homes.

Enrollment is the first day of class.   However, in order to have the necessary texts, we urge all interested persons to pre-register with the Community Education Department at Cloud County Community College.   Our number is 1-800-729-5101 or 785-243-1435 ext. 370.

If you have lived in Kansas LESS than six months, you must pay OUT OF STATE COST!!

  • All persons will take and pass a CASAS test (Basis Reading Skills) prior to enrollment.  If you have already taken the CASAS Test, please bring a copy of your score with you.
  • No late enrollments will be permitted.
  • Students must provide copies of their social security number and their CNA certificate on the first day of class.

Medication Aide Update

This course teaches drug actions and interactions, safe handling and administration, legal and ethical dilemmas and responsibilities of the certified medication aide (CMA).  The course meets all the CMA continuing education requirements through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

YOU MUST BRING YOUR MEDICATION AIDE CERTIFICATION NUMBER WITH YOU TO ENROLL IN THE COURSE.

Attention: Please Note The Following Changes: As of January 1, 2000, the procedure for updating the medication aide certificate changed, as per the direction of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  The procedure is as follows:

  1. All medication aides attending the Medication Aide Update class must bring the following to class the first day:
    1. A money order of certified check in the amount of $20, made out to Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).
    2. A current copy of your Medication Aide License or Certificate.
    3. A photocopy of your social security card or Kansas Driver's License (with your social security number).
  2. The first day of class, the Cloud County Community College representative will assist you in completing an Update Certification Form.  (Please be advised that if your name has changed for what is on your current medication aide card or social security card, you will need to bring the relevant documentation (i.e. copy of marriage license, divorce decree, etc.)
  3. Cloud County Community College will send to the Department of Health and Environment a roster with the names of the Medication Aide Update course.
  4. Two weeks prior to the expiration date of the medication aide certificate, Health Occupations Credentialing will send a new certificate to the medication aide.
