Ted Schmitz began his coaching career at Cloud County as Head Men's Soccer Coach, in 1981. Under Schmitz, the team was Region VI Champion three times, and Runner-Up four times.
As Head Women's Track and Field Coach, Schmitz also established a winning record. Since 1995, his team has placed 3rd in the Region three times, and second place 12 times. At the National Junior College Athletic Assocation level, the track teams under Schmitz secured 3rd place in 2004 and 2005 and won 4th place in 2003 and 2004.
As a coach, Schmitz has earned "Coach of the Year" honors, for indoor or outdoor track, every year from 1994 to 1997, 1999, and 2003. In 1989, he earned the National Soccer Coaches Assocation of America (NSCAA) Coach of the Year award.
Schmitz is also a sponsor of the Cloud chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
