Lady Thunderbird Basketball camp announced
(Concordia, KS) -- The Cloud County Community College Women's coaching staff is hosting a girls basketball camp, May 27-29, at Arley Bryant Gymnasium. The camp consists of two sessions, a Fundamental Camp for grades 3-7 and an Advanced Camp, for grades 8-12.

WICHITA — Two straight losses knocked the Cloud County Thunderbirds out of the Region 6 Division I softball tournament, on Friday. Cloud County was beaten 18-0 by Seward County in the first round of the tournament.

Bennington High School Student to Cheer for Cloud

Williams signs Letter of Intent to Dance for Cloud

She is the Daughter of Kent and Marcia Williams of Topeka, KS. Bor wins Drake Relays
(Des Moines, IA) – Cloud County Community College freshman Julius Bor struck gold once again winning the mile run at the 2008 Drake Relays this past weekend. The Kenyan-native won the event in 4:05.51 against some of the top runners in the United States. Bor adds to his collection of top performances in the mile as he took first at the Kansas Relays back on April 19th and second at the Texas Relays on the 5th. Bor ran his season best in Austin with a 3:59 performance.

Thunderbirds Face Johnson County in tournament
Fresh off a 4-game sweep of the Broncbusters of Garden City Community College, the Cloud County Thunderbirds (24-32) drew the Cavaliers of Johnson County (34-15) in the first round of the Region VI Baseball Tournament. The two teams will play a best-of-three series with game one of two beginning at 12 noon at the JCCC Baseball Complex. If there is a split on Saturday, a third and deciding game will be played on Sunday. The winner of the series will advance on to the Region VI Tournament to be played out at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kansas. The brackets are attached.

2008 Volleyball Camp announced
(Concordia, KS) -- Cloud County Community College will be hosting the Thunderbird Volleyball Camps for middle school and high school players. The camps will run from July 28-30 for high school players in grades 9-12, and from July 31 to Aug 1 for players in grades 5-8.

Participants are encouraged to mail their registration form and check by July 15th. Walk-in registrations are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.

Eric Gilliland pitches a sweep
Gilliland, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound junior from Concordia, Kan., came within one out of a nine-inning complete-game win at Central Missouri, as the Tigers became the first team to sweep the Mules at home since 1997 Saturday (April 19).

(Dodge City, KS) -— Dropping three games by a combined five runs, the Cloud County Community College baseball team went 0-4 against Dodge City, on Saturday and Sunday. The Thunderbirds lost 11-4 and 9-8 in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division doubleheader

Bor wins mile run at KU relays
(Lawrence, KS) -— Cloud County Community College freshman Julius Bor edged Vincent Rono to win the invitational mile run at the 81st Annual Kansas Relays. Bor turned in a winning time of 4:03.99 to win the race.

(Concordia, KS) -- The Cloud County Thunderbirds lost a pair of home games to Garden City, on Sunday. Garden City shut out Cloud County 18-0 in the first game of a Jayhawk Conference Western Division doubleheader. The Broncbusters won the second game, 10-2.

Alumni, Jared Goedert, joins the Kingston Indians
goedert_thumb.jpg(Kingston, NC) -- The Indians have won two of the last four Carolina League Championships and finished with a winning record in each of the last seven seasons. Third base prospect Jared Goedert also figures to see some time with the Indians this season, after hitting .364 with 16 home runs and 51 RBIs with Lake County in 2007. Goedert was promoted to Kinston last May, where he hit .256 with four homers in 35 games but missed some time due to a shoulder injury.

The showcase begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students. CCCC students will be admitted free.

(Concordia, KS) -- Cloud County scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Jayhawk Conference Western Division leading Colby 7-6 in the first game of a doubleheader, Thursday, at the Concordia Sports Complex. Colby came into the twinbill at 6-2 in the Jayhawk West. Cloud County lost the second game 7-2 and is now 7-21 overall and 3-11 in conference play.

(Concordia, KS) -- The Cloud County Community College baseball team pounded out a pair of wins over the Hastings College junior varsity, Wednesday, at the Concordia Sports Complex. Cloud County won both games in five innings, 13-0 and 14-0.

Lady T-birds fall to Barton County in championship
(Wichita, KS) -— Perhaps more unbelievable than Cloud County’s 9.76 percent shooting in the first half, is the fact that, despite hitting just 4 of 41 field goal attempts and falling behind 29-15 at halftime, the Thunderbirds had two opportunities to tie or take the lead on Barton County, late in the Region 6 Tournament championship game.

(WICHITA, KS) — It had been a while, but Cloud County coach Brett Erkenbrack had seen this team before. This was the team that opened the Jayhawk Conference Western Division season with seven straight wins that included a 74-55 romp over then third-ranked Barton County and a 78-66 victory over Seward County.

T-Birds split with the Blue Dragons
(Great Bend, KS) – Playing on neutral soil, the Thunderbirds got a much needed victory over conference powerhouse Hutchinson Community College Monday afternoon in Great Bend, Kansas. In the opener, the T-Birds fell in defeat 5-2. In the night cap the game turned into a pitchers duel as neither team could cross the plate for 8 full innings.

(Concordia, KS) -- Before the games on Wednesday, there will be a send-off for the men's and women’s Indoor Track & Field teams as they depart for Nationals. (DODGE CITY) — Cloud County was unable to turn back a charge by the Dodge City Conquistadors in the first half. But the Thunderbirds were able to fend off a Dodge City run in the second half on their way to a 65-54 Jayhawk Conference Western Division win over the Conquistadors here, Wednesday night.

(Concordia, KS) -- The 19th ranked Lady T-Birds finally slammed the door on the visiting Lady Beavers of Pratt Community College winning the Jayhawk West match-up 70-56. Cloud (22-5, 11-3, 2nd) converted 25 Pratt turnovers into 23 points, which widened the gap for the Lady T-Birds.

(Manhattan, KS) – Sophomore All-American Darcie Schmitz led the way for the Lady Thunderbirds 2nd place finish in the Jayhawk West. The Axtel-native won the long jump with a leap of 19’ 1.25”, finished 2nd in the triple jump (36’ 11.5”) and 6th in the 60m (7.93).

Bor runs over the mile record
(FAYETTEVILLE, AK) — Julius Bor broke a Cloud County Community College school record on his way to placing third in the mile run at the Tyson Invitational indoor track and field meet hosted by the University of Arkansas. Bor turned in a time of 4:05.36 to finish a close third in the race. The old school record of 4:08 was held by Luckey Hadebe.

Lady T-Birds conquer Colby
(Colby, KS) - Stepping it up on both ends of the floor in the second half, the 21st-ranked Cloud County Thunderbirds buried Colby 79-49 in a Jayhawk Conference Western Division match up, Saturday night, in Bryant Gymnasium. Struggling to shake off a pesky Colby team, Cloud County led the Trojans just 32-26 at halftime. The T-Birds shot 63 percent (17 of 27) from the field over the final 20 minutes and limited Colby to just seven field goals in 23 attempts for 30 percent on their way to the win.

Bor breakes school track record in Nebraska
(Lincoln, NE) – The Thunderbird men and women’s indoor track teams took part in the prestigious Adidas Classic which took place in the Bob Devaney Sports Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska. Freshman Julius Bor took top honors in the men’s 3,000m run besting the field in a time of 8:18.86.

Cloud County shook things up a bit in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division. Hutchinson came into Bryant Gymnasium Wednesday night 7-0 in the Jayhawk West, had a two game lead on Cloud County and Seward County. The Thunderbirds tightened things up a bit at the top by handing the Blue Dragons their first conference loss, 73-62.

Bor takes gold at the KU Invitational
(Laurence, KS) -- Freshman Julius Bor established himself as the man to beat in the 1000 and 3000 as the Kenyan native captured gold at the KU Invite this past Saturday. JB won the 1000 in a national qualifying time of 2:33.44 and also hit a qualifying time in the 3000 in a winning time of 8:27.45.

(PRATT) — Cloud County used a big second half to pull away to an 83-51 Jayhawk Conference Western Division win over Pratt here, Wednesday night. Leading 35-22 at halftime, the eighth-ranked Thunderbirds shot 54 percent (19 of 35) from the field in outscoring the Beavers 48-29 over the final 20 minutes.

T-Birds win on Adams buzzer beater
(PRATT) — Given a second chance, the Cloud County Thunderbirds made the most of it. With the game tied at 58-58, Cloud County committed a turnover with 1.3 seconds remaining. Pratt then returned the favor when an attempt at a long inbounds pass sailed out of bounds without any time running off the clock. The T-Birds then made the most of the reprieve when Girod Adams took an inbounds pass from Tyler Antenen and launched a three-point attempt that bounced on the rim three times before dropping through as time ran out to give them a 61-58 Jayhawk Conference Western Division win over the Beavers here, Wednesday night.

T-Birds ralley from behind to defeat the Trojans
tylerantenen_thumb.jpg(Colby, KS) -- The men had to dust off the snow in the early onset of the game as the cool-shooting T-Birds trailed 6-0 and 11-3 before getting on track. It was only a matter of time before the Thunderbirds caught up and eventually built an 18 point halftime lead, 45-27. The long ball was falling for the T-Birds as they knocked down 9 of 24 from beyond the arc with Oleg Kovalov hitting 3 of the nine. Cloud (11-7, 3-1) was led in scoring by Jemal Farmer’s 17 points. Kovalov added 15 and Tyler Antenen had a season-high 10 points. Rounding out the scoring: Blocker - 2; Moss – 1; White-Ready – 3; Witherspoon – 9; Adams – 5; Taylor – 4; Meo – 6; Tate – 2.

Lady T-Birds win their 4th straight conference game
(Colby, KS) -- The Cloud County Community College Thunderbird Basketball teams braved the elements and a feisty Jayhawk West opponent to notch wins Wednesday night on the road in Colby. The 13th ranked Lady T-Birds got up on the Lady Trojans early and never let down winning their 4th straight conference game, 76-53. Cloud County (16-2, 4-0) shot 43% from the floor and 76.5% from the charity stripe for the night. Sophomore Kenya Howard came off the bench to lead all scorers and rebounders with 18 points and 7 rebounds. A pair of freshmen, Deandra Schirmer and Ashley Schmitt had 12 points each. Rounding out the scoring: Bryant – 8; Kermis – 2; Chapman – 7; White – 6; Pitts – 2; O’Neill – 6.

Thunderbirds dominate Barton County
(Concordia, KS) -- The Cloud County Thunderbird men’s basketball team improved to 9-6 and more importantly, 2-0 on the rugged Jayhawk West division by thumping the reeling Barton County Cougars 84-53. Barton County entered the game 12-3 but 0-2 in the conference, which was a point of concern for coach Eshbaugh and coach Muff.

Lady Thunderbirds Crush #3 Barton County

Cloud never trailed in the contest racing out to a commanding lead early and was never threatened all night. Barton County entered the game 15-0 and their margin of victory was in excess of 35 points. The Lady T-Bird (13-2, 2-0) defense clamped down on the Barton weapons forcing 22 turnovers and allowing a modest 36% shooting for the game.

Cloud to host Winter League volleyball camp
(Concordia, KS) -- Head Women's Volleyball Coach Staci Elias will be hosting a Winter League camp for 5th through 8th grade players. The camp will be held January 14 through February 25, on Monday nights, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm in Arley Bryant Gymnasium. The camp will emphasize teamwork, individual skills, and team offense and defense. The cost is $60 and registration forms are due by January 4th.

Odom named 2nd Team All-American
(Concordia, KS) -- Sophomore, forward Daryl Odom was selected to the 2nd Team, NJCAA All-American team last week. The Lancaster, California native ended his playing days at CCCC with an amazing 33 goals and 21 assists. Odom has taken several recruiting trips this fall and plans to make his decision in the spring.

T-Birds take the series
(Norfolk, Neb) -- The Northeast Community College Hawks are probably happy they won’t see the Cloud County Thunderbirds any more this season. Northeast lost just one of its first nine games of the season, a 69-68 setback at home to the T-Birds. Cloud County then handed the Hawks their second loss, 89-69, Tuesday night, in Bryant Gymnasium to complete the series sweep.

Lady T-Birds Wins Two at Hutch
(HUTCHINSON) — Four players scored in double figures to lead the Cloud County Thunderbirds to a 72-58 win over Independence in the Hutchinson Classic, Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard Stephanie Bryant led all scorers with 16 points, despite suffering a broken nose in the first half. She hit 6 of 10 field goal attempts and four of four free throws.

T-Birds Fall Short in Incredible Comeback

In the first half the Thunderbirds were discombobulated with arrant passes, missed shots under the bucket and poor man-to-man defense. To the credit of the coaching staff and the heart of the players, Cloud emerged from the locker room with a new lease on life.

Thunderbirds Fall Short in First Road Test
(Norfolk, NE) – The Cloud County men’s basketball team fell in their first road test of the 2007-2008 season losing to Northeast Community College 92-80 Wednesday night. NECC blistered the nets in the opening half hitting 7 of 11 three pointers on their way to a 48-36 halftime lead. The T-Birds fought back in the second half closing the lead to 5, but the NECC hot hands continued as they finished the night hitting 51% of their shots (52% from beyond the arc).

Lady T-Birds Eke Out Road Win
(Norfolk, NE) -- The Lady T-Birds captured their first road win of the 2007-2008 season taking out the Lady Hawks of Northeast Community College 69-68. It was a nip and tuck game throughout with Cloud clinging to a 4 point half time advantage 38-34. Neither team shot the ball exceptionally well, but the Lady T-Bird outrebounded NECC 49-41 and knocked down 10 of 13 second half free throws, to escape with the one point win.

New bus gets new graphics

The 1999 Bluebird was located by and purchased from Babe House Motor Company. The unit came with only 70,000 original, one-owner miles, and is equiped with a DVD player and 6 monitors, a restroom and more-than-adequate storage for equipment.

Lady T-Birds tame Broncos in Opener
(Concordia, KS) -- It was all Cloud County Friday night as Brett Erkenbrack’s 2007-2008 Lady Thunderbirds rolled the outgunned Lady Broncos of Hastings College 101-36. Cloud hit 51% of their first half shots racing out to a commanding 46-12 halftime lead. The Lady T-Bird defense converted 43 Hastings turnovers into 49 points.

Bor, Shuping, and Cope ready for NJCAA Championships
DanielleCope_thumb.jpgFreshman Julius Bor and sophomore Johnny Shuping are two of the nation’s top performers in this year’s NJCAA Cross Country field. They will take their lofty rankings into this weekends national meet in Rend Lake College (Ina, Illinois), each with hopes of an individual title and a strong finish for the team.

Freshman Danielle Cope, CCCC’s top runner for the women’s team, hopes to continue her climb in the rankings and produce a quality performance for the Lady Thunderbirds. Iowa Central ranks #1 in the men’s rankings while Butler County tops the list for the ladies.

T-Birds Bor Top Runner in Region VI
bor_thumb.jpgArkansas City, KS – Freshman sensation Julius Bor bested the field Monday morning winning the 2007 NJCAA Region VI Cross Country Championships. Bor, a native of Kenya, finished the 8k course in 24:49 nipping fellow countryman Daniel Maina of Cowley at the wire. Sophomore Julius Kiptum finished in 7th place in a time of 26:07. Danielle Cope was the women’s top finisher coming in 16th place in a 5K time of 20:19.

Odom named Jayhawk West Player of the Year
darrylodom_thumb.jpg(Concordia, KS) -- Men’s soccer player Daryl Odom was named 1st team All-Jayhawk West and voted “Player of the Year” by the coaches. Odom, a sophomore forward from Lancaster, California, recorded 15 goals and 12 assists on the season. Fellow Californian Robby Gonzalez was selected to the Jayhawk West 2nd team. Gonzalez hales form Palmdale.

On the women’s team, freshman forward, Nakita Menefee was selected to the NJCAA Region VI, 2nd Team. Menefee is a native of Wichita and a graduate of South High.

T-Birds season ends at Seward County
(Liberal, KS) -— Cloud County’s season came to an end with a loss to Seward County in the first round of the Region 6 Division I Volleyball Tournament Tuesday night. Seward County won the first game of the match, 30-26. The Saints posted a 30-24 win in game two and then took the third game, 30-16.

Thunderbirds Roll Swedes in Home Opener

Tennal Joins Southeastern Coaching Staff
(HAMMOND, LA) -- Southeastern Louisiana University has named Miklannet Tennal assistant basketball coach, Lady Lion head coach Lori Davis Jones announced on Wednesday. Tennal has spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Angelo State University, helping the team to consecutive NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament appearances.

Basketball Practice Gets Underway
(Concordia, KS) -- Both the men and women’s basketball programs got their 2007-2008 seasons underway on October 1st conducting the season’s first official practices. Thunderbirds Sink Pirates
(Independence, KS) -– The Cloud County men’s soccer program opened the season on fire with big wins over Johnson County and Kansas City, but have recently fallen on difficult times. Traveling to Independence didn’t seem to be a good remedy, but the men regained some of that early season swagger pulling off an impressive road conference win pouring in 4 second half goals in route to a 5-3 victory.

(Concordia, KS) -- The Cloud County men’s soccer team recaptured their winning ways Saturday by dominating the visiting Hesston College Larks winning 2-0. It was apparent to the T-Bird faithful, those that braved the rain and cold, that the men have made marked improvements in their intensity and consistency. Cloud dominated the match from start to finish with countless shots-on-goal and allowing less than a handful from Hesston.

Lady Thunderbirds Break Out, Go 3-1 at Highland Tourney

Thunderbirds Sweep Top 3 Spots at Cavalier Cup
(Overland Park, KS) -– The men’s cross country program flexed some muscle within the Region VI by sweeping the top three spots in the Johnson County Community College “Cavalier Cup” this past Friday evening. Freshman Julius Bor took top honors winning the 5K event in a time of 15:22. Close behind and finishing 2nd was teammate Johnny Shuping who ran a time of 15:31.

Soccer Suffers Loss at Bethany
nakitamenefee_thumb.jpg(Lindsborg KS) -- The Lady T-Bird soccer teams suffered a loss Wednesday afternoon falling to Bethany College varsity squad 5-1 in Lindsborg, despite being tied at the intermission 1-1. Coach Straight indicated that once Bethany got the wind in the second half, the defense didn’t make necessary adjustments and were caught out of position allowing for 4 unanswered goals. Freshman Nakita Menefee scored Cloud’s only goal.

Lady Thunderbirds Push 18th Ranked Seward to 4 Games
(Concordia, KS) -- In Staci Elias’ home debut as the Lady Thunderbird head volleyball coach, she nearly pulled off an upset win in front of a great crowd over perennial powerhouse and 18th ranked Seward County. In game one, Cloud spotted Seward 9 points in the early onset falling behind 1-10, only to battle back with intense defense and a hitting attack led by Darcie Schmitz and the serving of Katie Hale.

(PRATT, KS) -- The Cloud County Thunderbirds lost in straight games to Pratt here, Wednesday night. Pratt won the first game of the Jayhawk Conference Western Division match, 30-25. The Beavers took the second game 30-19 and then won the third, 30-23. “They are a good team. They are solid,” Cloud County coach Staci Elias said of Pratt, “I think people are going to underestimate them. I think they are going to be a tough team.”

Cloud County recruit shines in all-star game
Chris White-Ready, the former Topeka High star, scored a game-high 23 points as the North, coached by Highland Park's Darting, rallied from a 16-point first-half deficit to knock off the South 96-93 in Wednesday night's Kansas Basketball Coaches Association boys all-star game at Lee Arena.

White-Ready, a two-time All-City pick who is headed to Cloud County Community College, scored 17 points in the second half as the North fought back from an 11-point halftime deficit.

(Concordia, KS) – Staci Elias, Head Coach of the Women’s Volleyball team, is hosting a volleyball camp, August 2nd-3rd, at Arley Bryant Gymnasium. The camp will focus on individual skills, team offense and defense, and includes some competitive play. Registration is open to grades 5-8.

High School volleyball camp registrations begin

Track alum excel at the next level
burns_thumb.jpg(Concordia, KS) -- Several Cloud County alumni made the news this past weekend following their individual conference and national meets. Starting with the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Carbondale, Illinois it was the Cloud County duo of Kellyn Johnson and Erica Evans that collected 38 points for Wichita State as Johnson won the 1500m (4:30) and the 5000m (16:51.32) while Evans won the javelin (148’ 8”) and took 2nd place in the pole vault (11’ 11.75”).

T-Birds prep for college finals and Nationals this week
coffeyville_stadium_thumb.jpg(Concordia, KS) -- Members of the Cloud County Track & Field team are bearing down for their college finals this week along with some light workouts in preparation for this week’s NJCAA Track & Field National Championships in Coffeyville. The event starts on Thursday and will come to a close on Saturday afternoon.
