Drew Mahin attended Pike Valley High School in Scandia, Kan., lettering in cross country, football, basketball, and track. Mahin was a part of the 2004 PVHS team that claimed the 1A state title in Track and in 2005 the 1A state runner-up in Cross Country. He specialized in the 400 hurdles at Fort Hays State University.

Mahin began coaching at Thomas Moore Prep from 2010-2011 as an assistant for Cross Country. In spring of 2012 Mahin coached the TMP Monarch’s sprints/hurdles helping the girls’ team take home 3A state runner-up trophy.
In 2011-2012, while finishing his degree at FHSU, he served as student assistant for hurdles/sprints. The girls Hurdle Shuttle Relay broke the school record in 2011, and Mahin helped two hurdlers achieve national provisional times in the 100m hurdles.

From 2009-2012 Mahin was a volunteer coach for the Hays Striders. These athletes ranged in age from 7-18 and they competed in regional and national AAU and USATF meets. Coach Mahin received his USTAF Level 1 Certification in July 2013.

Mahin began teaching at Phillipsburg HS in 2012 where he taught Government, Economics, and Current Events. He served as Head Cross Country Coach, Asst. Girls Basketball, and Asst. Track Coach.
PHS Cross Country finished with boy’s runner up at the MCL League, 3A Boys Regional individual champion, and 3A State individual 7th place.
PHS Track and field finished with five boy’s school records (triple jump, javelin, 110H, 200m, 4x100m). The Panther’s 4x100m team claimed state title and the 3A state record at 42.54. PHS took home MCL league titles (both girls and boys) for the first time in 44 years, 3A boy’s first ever regional title, and the 3A boy’s state runner-up.

Mahin has four siblings, three of which attended Cloud County. Caleb ran distance at F.H.S.U., Luke (twin brother) competed in pole vault at Cloud and later F.H.S.U., Ethan graduated from wind energy program at Cloud, and Hannah graduated from Cloud in 2012 and will attend F.H.S.U.
