|CCCC pulls out 6-5 win over Grizzlies|
|Scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cloud County Community College baseball team defeated Butler Community College 6-5 in a Jayhawk Conference Western Division game Wednesday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed.
Cloud County lost 7-1 and 11-5 to Butler on Tuesday.
The Thunderbirds jumped to a 5-0 lead on the Grizzlies in the first inning on Wednesday. Colton Kooser drove in three runs with a double.
Butler scored three runs in the second inning, one in the third and one in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 5-5.
Cameron Zane led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single. Trevor Reid drew a walk with one out. Bowe Behmeyer singled to drive in Zane with the go-ahead run.
Emilio Foden gave up a single and hit a batter in the top of the seventh inning, but got out of the jam without allowing a run as Cloud County picked up its first conference win.
Foden gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits, struck out six and walked five in picking up the win.
Jacob Wells had three hits for the T-Birds. Behymer had two hits and Kooser drove in three runs.
Cloud County was limited to four hits in losing game one on Tuesday, 7-1.
Butler scored one run in the second inning and four in the top of the third to go up 5-1. The T-Birds pushed
across a run in the bottom of the third. Butler added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Zane had two of Cloud County’s hits.
Jared Winter gave up five runs on five hits in three innings in taking the loss. He struck out two and walked five.
In game two, the Grizzlies put up four runs in the top of the second inning. Cloud County scored three runs in the bottom of the second. Two runs in the fourth inning gave Butler a 6-3 advantage.
The T-Birds closed the gap to 6-5 with two runs in the fifth inning. Butler added three runs in the sixth inning, one in the seventh and one in the ninth.
Bryce Lievens had two hits and drove in three runs for Cloud County. Bryce McMullen had three hits and scored two runs.
Derek Newcome suffered the loss. He allowed six runs on six hits, struck out two and walked three in three and two-thirds innings.  |
