Hannah Draper Burnett is Director of Choral Studies and Music Instructor at Cloud County Community College, where she directs the collegiate and community choral ensembles, and teaches courses in Music Appreciation and private voice. She previously served as a Graduate Assistant for Eastern Kentucky University Choirs under Dr. Richard Waters, where in addition to her graduate conducting activities, she held positions as Director of the Foster Academy for Musical Excellence Youth Chorus, Richmond, KY, Director of Music at Bluegrass United Church of Christ, Lexington, KY, section leader, rehearsalist, and assistant conductor for the choirs of The Church of the Good Shepherd, Lexington, KY, Assistant Director of Universitatis Schola Cantorum, Lexington, KY, and member of the Lexington Chamber Chorale under the direction of Dr. Gary Anderson. As a conductor, she presented the EKU Chamber Singers’ first performance of John Tavener’s “The Lamb”, has prepared EKU’s ensembles for performances of Brahms Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and a collage program for EKU Choirs’ recent tour to Ireland, as well as leading various instrumental chamber ensembles for collegiate recitals at EKU. Ms. Burnett received the Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Eastern Kentucky University. She has studied conducting with Gary Anderson, Richard Waters, John Linker, and David Clemmer. She holds memberships in the American Choral Directors Association, American Guild of Organists, Chorus America, College Music Society, the National Association for Music Education, National Collegiate Choral Organization, and Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society.

 

Ms. Burnett remains active as a performer, conductor, and clinician. As a concert soloist she has performed with the EKU Choirs, Symphonic Band, and Orchestra in works such as Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Messiah, and Glenn McClure’s St. Francis in the Americas: A Caribbean Mass. She has served as a resident member of Cincinnati’s historic May Festival Chorus, most recently performing Berlioz’s Requiem and Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony. She was previously an active presence within church music throughout the Central Kentucky region, presenting Vivaldi’s Nisi Dominus and Stabat Mater, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs in various church spaces throughout the area. Ms. Burnett has also recently completed performances of Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil and Rodion Shchedrin’s The Sealed Angel as a member of Cincinnati’s Vocal Arts Ensemble under artistic director Craig Hella Johnson.
