Todd Leif came to Cloud County Community College in August of 1989 as a physical science instructor. He is currently completing his twenty seventh year of service and teaching for Cloud. During this tenure he has become the department chairman for natural and physical sciences, an academic advisor specializing in Engineering, Mathematics, Wind Energy Technology and other general science fields. He is also the head coach for the Academic Excellence program which has won the Kansas Academic Excellence Challenge, state championship 5 times under his direction. Leif has been the Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas Section Representative for the American Association of Physics Teachers for the past seventeen years and is continuing his work in the organization at both the regional and national levels.Currently, he is the Co-PI of the two year college new faculty training experience. These workshops bring current physics education research into the classrooms of the most recent physics teaching hires among two-year colleges. He also is a Co-PI on another NSF grant which is researching and providing New Faculty Training for early career physics faculty at the two year college teaching level. Leif was a consultant to ESPN The Magazine during a recent article on "Football Physics" and has been published by "The Physics Teacher" in a paper discussing the use of "lava lamps" in the classroom. In 2011, Leif earned the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) Distinguished Service Citation. Additionally, in 2014 Leif was names as an AAPT Fellow, part of this inaugural cohort of leaders in service to the AAPT.
