MUSIC
This program is designed to prepare students for a major in music or music education. The courses will prepare students for upper-division bachelor-level study at a four-year institution.

Degree Information: The Associates of Arts Degree with a Music Emphasis is designed to enable students to transfer into a variety of major programs at K-State, Ft Hays and other music programs across the Midwest.  

Recommended Course Sequence:
First Semester:  MU100, MU110, Applied Music and Performance Ensemble elective
Second Semester:  MU111, Applied Music and Performance Ensemble elective
Third Semester:  Applied Music and Performance Ensemble elective
Fourth Semester: Applied Music and Performance Ensemble elective

Students can select an area of emphasis: These general areas align with programs at universities and allow students to narrow their focus after they transfer. Faculty advisors will direct students toward basic courses needed for the major program at the university of transfer.

Requirements: Depending on ACT scores and/or placement exams, students may be required to take developmental courses which may add to the length of study.

After Cloud: Students could gain immediate, entry-level employment in the music field, or if already employed, obtain career advancement opportunities. Students can transfer to a university or college to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Gainful Employment: An Associate of Arts degree in music will provide students the ability to transfer to four-year institutions. Upon completion of a 4-year degree students will be able to pursue the following careers in music:  Performer (no definite salary cap, but American Federation of Musicians scale woud be typical as a starting wage $100-$400 per event; Private Studio Instructor $10-$60 hourly; School Music Teacher $25,000-$35,000 annually in Kansas; Music Industry Professional (agent, recording tech, etc) $10,000-$40,000 yearly. Employment opportunities without a bachelor’s degree would include Private Studio instructor $10-$40 hourly; Piano Accompanist $10-$40 hourly; “Club” Musician $5.00-$10.00 hourly. Associate degrees would make students more competitive for most entry level positions.
 
Transfer Institution Guide:  A student who is interested in pursuing a baccalaureate degree should consult a CCCC advisor and the transfer guide and catalog of the four-year institution.

ART
